Last year, I wrote about the pros and cons of working from my home (based near Portland, Oregon). I discussed benefits, such as taking a break from being a writer and editor by lying on my bed, and making my own hours.
It’s a timely discussion now, considering Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer’s decision to end telecommuting at her company.
I’m only a quasi-telecommuter now. My writing and editing business, Enlighten Writing, has an office at AmberGlen Parkway in Hillsboro, Oregon. I still work at my home office, but I spend just as much time at my actual office.
I think that telecommuting should always be an option for businesses, but many employees were clearly abusing the perk at Yahoo!, and I agree with Mayer’s decision.
What do you think? Is telecommuting an option for you? Or do you agree with Marissa Mayer?
